Three companies are planning to create several Baltimore IT jobs.

The cyber-security organizations, which include CyberPoint International, Vir2us Inc. and Security Technology Institute, plan to open in Baltimore and create a total of more than 100 new jobs during the next two years.

CyberPoint International, which opened last month, currently has 10 employees and plans to hire 100 more. The company provides cyber security-related engineering and technical services. CyberPoint International was created by a Maryland native who formerly served as vice president and director of the intelligence and space business unit at SRA International, Inc. and CEO of RABA Technologies.

Vir2us recently relocated from California's Silicon Valley into Baltimore's Emerging Technology Centers. The company currently has four employees and plans to hire 25 more. Vir2us works to improve computer security through rapid innovation and its "immunity" technology addresses major cyber-security problems by fundamentally changing how computers work. The company's CEO formerly served as chief scientist at McAfee.

Security Technology Institute, a nonprofit, public-private partnership also located in the Emerging Technology Centers, plans to begin operations December 1. The company plans to launch programs that it hopes will help position Maryland as a global leader in the expanding cyber-security technology industry.

"Cyber Security and other related security technologies represent an unparalleled economic development opportunity for Maryland," CEO Allen C. Shay said. "Leveraging as seed capital some of the $30 billion in federal spending projected for cyber security, STI is focused on recruiting promising new security technologies and technology companies to Maryland, and assisting in the development of new homegrown technology companies that ultimately will create vibrant domestic and export markets for their products and services."
