Sales Associate Jobs Should Focus on Technology

Email This Post Print This Post

If you're looking for sales associate jobs (Click here), it's more important today than ever before to be familiar with mobile technology.

The most recent Motorola Solutions survey found that holiday shoppers may have more easily found information on their mobile phones than from sales associates. That's mainly because of the increase in available apps for price comparisons, coupons, and social networking.

The survey found that 55 percent of associates believed this to be true, which may be the fault of retailers themselves, who aren't investing in technology as quickly as their consumers. In fact, several customers reported not spending money at certain stores because of their lack of convenience and technology.

However, the survey also found that 43 percent of customers had an improved shopping experience when they were helped by a sales associate with a mobile computer. This process is causing 87 percent of retailers to focus more on customer service.

"Retailers have put their associates at a significant disadvantage to connected consumers with the majority citing that shoppers are better connected than their in-store associates," Frank Riso, senior director of retail solutions for Motorola Solutions, said in a statement. "With 87 percent of surveyed retail associates noting that shoppers can easily find a better deal, offering the best customer experience is more important than ever. Retailers need to arm their mobile associates with access to real-time information to level the shopping playing field."

The survey further found that:

  • More than 50 percent of associates did not have time to help customers because they were told to focus on other tasks
  • 68 percent of sales associates want access to a mobile scanning device
  • 25 percent of customers would prefer to purchase an item through a sales associate using a hand-held payment device
  • 39 percent of customers left a store after finding a better deal on their mobile phones
  • 34 percent of retailers were frustrated when customers told them they needed to restock items
  • 55 percent of retailers think losses due to out-of-stock items could be recovered with more help from sales associates
