Orlando IT Jobs Supported by Florida Opportunity Fund
One organization is working to secure funding that will help create Orlando IT jobs.
The Florida Opportunity Fund recently announced that it will award up to $4 million to Harbert Venture Partners, a Birmingham-based investment firm. Last year, the firm established a unit at the University of Florida's Sid Martin Biotechnology Incubator to increase its access to new biotech companies with promising products.
According to an article by the Orlando Sentinel, Harbert Venture Partners mainly invests in early-stage healthcare and information technology companies throughout the Southeastern United States. The company has offices in Gainesville, Fla.; Birmingham, Ala.; and Richmond, Va.

Dallas Tech Jobs Created by Indian Outsourcing Company
An international company's effort to expand into the American market will help create Dallas tech jobs.
Infosys Technologies Limited, which is the second-largest outsourcing firm in India, recently announced that it will launch Infosys Technologies Inc., a subsidiary based in Dallas. That branch will be responsible for garnering information technology contracts from state and local governments.
It is estimated those contracts could reach about $59.5 billion through 2012. While the company has not yet disclosed the exact number of people it plans to hire, experts predict that number could initially be in the hundreds and grow over time.
Pittsburgh Technology Jobs See Yearly Net Gain
Hundreds of Pittsburgh technology jobs have been created during the last year.
A new study from The Technology Collaborative found that while 215 robotics and digital technology jobs were lost throughout Pennsylvania during the last fiscal year, more than 300 jobs were created, resulting in a net gain of 125 jobs during the 12-month period.
Tech Collaborative is a Pittsburgh-based non-profit organization focused on growing the tech and robotics sectors throughout the state. The organization offers various resources to early-stage companies, including an incubator program, seed investment and industry expertise.
Texas Tech Jobs Supported by TIPS
One new facility will help to support Texas tech jobs.
The Texas A&M Institute for Preclinical Studies recently opened. TIPS will train veterinarians, physicians, scientists, technicians and engineers in order to meet the growing needs of the biomedical industry, while accelerating the research, development and commercialization of breakthrough technologies.
"This building and its high-tech mission are proof that Texas is prepared to play a lead role in the development of new ideas, technologies and therapies," Gov. Rick Perry said. "The TIPS institute will fuel our state's economy by facilitating collaboration between public universities and the private sector and providing a forum where great ideas can grow into successful businesses and quality jobs."
St Louis IT Jobs Training
Residents preparing for St Louis IT jobs and other technology-centric positions throughout Missouri are getting some free help.
Job seekers throughout St. Louis and Missouri are taking advantage of free technology education provided to residents through the Microsoft Elevate America program, a partnership between the state and Microsoft.
The Missouri Department of Economic Development recently announced that only four weeks after the launch of the program, more than 10,000 people have applied to receive a voucher for e-learning and certification programs. There are a total of 24,750 vouchers available.
Online Training in Demand for IT Workers
While the State of Maine has a healthy IT industry, many workers with IT jobs are demanding training for new technology, including online training.
A recent report from the Technology Association of Maine based on a survey of 288 IT businesses found there is a demand among IT professionals for "educational opportunities, especially in the form of just-in-time skills training to address the training needs of emerging and disruptive technologies."
TechMaine, which is the statewide trade association for Maine's technology industries, created the report as part of a federally funded project to address the impact of the impending closure of the Brunswick Naval Air Station.
Colorado Tech Jobs Get Cloudy Outlook
One company is planning to cut more than 100 Colorado tech jobs and thousands of jobs throughout the country.
Computer technology company Sun Microsystems Inc. recently announced that it will cut hundreds of jobs in January 2010 at the company's Colorado facility as part of a national round of layoffs that will result in the loss of thousands of jobs.
The company, which is based in Santa Clara, Calif., submitted an advance notice of mass layoffs to state labor officials under the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act. According to an article by the San Francisco Business Times, mass layoffs are considered those in which 50 or more workers are let go within a 30-day period.
Baltimore IT Jobs Created by Three Companies
Three companies are planning to create several Baltimore IT jobs.
The cyber-security organizations, which include CyberPoint International, Vir2us Inc. and Security Technology Institute, plan to open in Baltimore and create a total of more than 100 new jobs during the next two years.
CyberPoint International, which opened last month, currently has 10 employees and plans to hire 100 more. The company provides cyber security-related engineering and technical services. CyberPoint International was created by a Maryland native who formerly served as vice president and director of the intelligence and space business unit at SRA International, Inc. and CEO of RABA Technologies.
Tech Jobs in Los Angeles Take Flight
A world-renowned aerospace company is helping to create tech jobs in Los Angeles.
Airbus Americas recently announced that it has awarded a $10 million contract to McStarlite Company. The six-year contract will support 120 existing jobs with McStarlite, as well as create an additional 40 new jobs.

"By doubling its direct economic investment, Airbus' commitment to the region helps ensure that the aerospace industry remains a strong economic engine here in Southern California where it began.
